Drivers headed south on US 281 toward San Antonio have one more night of ramp detours at FM 1863. TxDOT lists a nighttime closure of the southbound main lanes at the FM 1863 bridge approaches from Oct. 28 through Oct. 29, with traffic detoured onto the entrance and exit ramps while crews make base repairs at the approaches.

TxDOT's DriveTexas condition entry says delays are expected. The affected stretch runs from about 1,668 feet north of FM 1863 to about 2,038 feet south of it. The listing gives the dates and says night work only, but it supplies no start or reopening hour, so drivers should check the US 281 entry on DriveTexas before traveling rather than assuming the lanes are back.

This is a different DriveTexas event from the Oct. 27-28 southbound work at the same bridge: that earlier entry listed alternating lane closures and no detour, while the newer entry specifically lists closed main lanes and a detour. Drivers who traveled the corridor during the earlier work should not rely on that experience tonight.

TxDOT lists Oct. 29 as the end date for the detour. The Traffic Desk will carry any extension or early reopening in the next drive-time file if DriveTexas changes the listing.
