Halloween Weekend Traffic: TxDOT Closures Hit I-35 Southbound and Loop 1604 Main Lanes on the Northeast Side
TxDOT has announced multiple closures on Interstate 35 southbound and the Loop 1604 main lanes throughout Halloween weekend, as the Northeast Side's frontage-road closure run ends Friday.

Northeast Side drivers trade one closure pattern for another this weekend. The Texas Department of Transportation has announced multiple closures on Interstate 35 southbound and the main lanes of Loop 1604 throughout Halloween weekend, according to KSAT's report of the TxDOT announcement — a shift from the frontage-road and ramp work that has owned the corridor's overnight hours to main-lane work on the weekend itself.
The changeover lands Friday. The I-35 Northeast Expansion frontage-road closures that have run overnight all week — frontage roads and exit ramps closing from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. near Space Center Drive, Rittiman Road, Fratt Road, Walzem Road and the Eisenhower Lane-to-Petroleum Drive stretch, with the I-35 main lanes and George Beach Avenue kept open and access to Brooke Army Medical Center maintained, according to TxDOT's notice as reported by KTSA — are scheduled through Friday, October 30. The Halloween weekend main-lane closures on I-35 southbound and Loop 1604 follow them.
The weekend also puts the closures on the same roads as Halloween itself: Saturday is Halloween, and safety officials put the peak trick-or-treating hours between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. The Traffic Desk's advice is the same on both counts — check the live traffic panel on twanews.com before a Northeast Side trip this weekend, follow the posted detours rather than a familiar route, and expect the I-35 and Loop 1604 corridor to need extra minutes from Friday night through Sunday.
