Thursday AM Drive: The I-35 Connector to I-410 South Reopens at 5 A.M., and the Northeast I-35 Frontage Closures Run Their Final Nights Through Friday
The overnight beam-repair closure at the I-35/I-410 interchange ends on schedule this morning, while TxDOT's frontage-road and ramp closures on the Northeast Side continue overnight through Oct. 30 with signed detours.

The Thursday drive starts with one closure lifting. The full overnight closure of the southbound I-35 connector ramp to I-410 South, closed for structural beam repairs, was scheduled from 9 p.m. Wednesday to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday, according to the closure reporting — so the interchange is back in the morning mix, with drivers still advised to expect overnight-style delays around the work zone as the commute builds.
The bigger overnight pattern is on the Northeast Side, where frontage roads and exit ramps along I-35 close through Thursday, Oct. 30, under the I-35 Northeast Expansion Program, weather permitting, according to the Texas Department of Transportation as reported by KTSA, with extended hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Oct. 30. Northbound drivers near Space Center Drive are directed onto Industry Park Drive and back to the frontage road at the next entrance ramp; near Rittiman Road and Exit 164B, detours run along Rittiman, Fratt and Eisenhauer roads. Southbound, the Fratt Road and Exit 165 detour uses Fratt, Interchange Parkway and Walzem Road; the Walzem Road and Exit 164B detour uses Walzem, Austin Highway and Eisenhauer, with some traffic redirected to the Northeast Loop 410 interchange; and between Eisenhower Lane and Petroleum Drive, traffic detours via the I-410 connector, Binz Engleman Road and the northbound frontage road.
Two reassurances hold through the work: the I-35 main lanes and George Beach Avenue remain open, and access to Brooke Army Medical Center is maintained. At George Beach Avenue, drivers can continue onto the southbound frontage road, reach the medical center or turn toward Petroleum Drive, and the frontage road between George Beach and Petroleum temporarily carries two-way traffic with law enforcement directing vehicles at the intersection. The desk's guidance for Thursday: the morning drive is clear of the connector closure, but anyone traveling the Northeast corridor after 11 p.m. Thursday or Friday night should follow the posted detours and allow extra time.
