Weekend Closure: U.S. 281 Lanes at Loop 1604 Shut From Friday Night to Monday Morning
Northbound and southbound U.S. 281 main and frontage lanes at Loop 1604 close at 9 p.m. Friday and stay closed until 5 a.m. Monday, with frontage-road detours on both sides.

North Side drivers face a full weekend closure at one of the city's busiest interchanges. As part of TxDOT's Loop 1604 expansion project, crews will close the northbound and southbound U.S. 281 main lanes and frontage lanes at the Loop 1604 intersection from 9 p.m. Friday, October 23, through 5 a.m. Monday, October 26.
The detours run on the frontage roads. Drivers continuing north on U.S. 281 through Loop 1604 will take the Henderson Pass exit onto the northbound frontage road. Southbound drivers will use the Redland Road exit onto the southbound frontage road and continue through the interchange.
The closure lands on a busy Friday night in San Antonio, with early voting under way across Bexar County and the first night of Muertos Fest at Hemisfair downtown. The Traffic Desk's advice is to build the detour into the trip before leaving, expect the frontage roads at 1604 and 281 to carry the interchange's full load all weekend, and check the live traffic panel on twanews.com before crossing the North Side.
