The northwest side's biggest interchange goes dark in phases this weekend. TxDOT is warning drivers about overnight closures at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange for bridge-widening work, according to KTSA's report of the TxDOT notice, read in full this cycle: the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads, along with the eastbound I-10 mainlanes, will close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Friday, October 30, through Monday, November 2, weather permitting.

Drivers will be directed onto frontage roads and U-turns to get around the closures, KTSA reported, and truck and oversized vehicles will have a separate detour. All flyover ramps at the interchange will remain open — the one piece of the junction that keeps moving while the surface and mainlane work runs underneath it.

The timing lands on the busiest social weekend of the fall: Halloween Saturday night and the Día de los Muertos events running through Monday all feed traffic toward the northwest side after 9 p.m. Drivers headed home across the interchange late should follow the posted detour signs, allow extra time, and treat the frontage-road U-turn pattern as the route, not a shortcut. The closures lift at 5 a.m. each morning, so daytime travel through the interchange is unaffected.
