Loop 410's Westbound Overnight Closures Between San Pedro and West Avenue End Friday Morning

The nightly 9 p.m.-to-5 a.m. lane closures that ran from Sunday night through Friday morning on westbound Loop 410 are complete — the painting and barrier phase of the $156 million Loop 410 and U.S. 281 project is done, and daytime traffic was never affected.

A week of overnight work on San Antonio's North Side is finished. Beginning Sunday night, October 25, drivers heading west on Loop 410 between San Pedro Avenue and West Avenue encountered overnight lane closures as crews continued work on the Loop 410 San Pedro Improvements Project, according to the project reporting read this cycle. The restrictions ran nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and concluded Friday morning, October 30 — which means the PM drive tonight is the first evening commute this week without that phase waiting at 9 p.m.

During the phase, crews painted new lane markings and installed concrete barriers along westbound Loop 410. As many as four lanes could be closed simultaneously, although at least one lane remained available for traffic, and the restrictions were overnight only: lanes reopened each morning, so daytime drivers did not face the same pattern. The distinction matters for tonight's drive — this was a temporary overnight phase ending on schedule, not another segment closing long-term.

The work is part of a much larger $156 million transportation project intended to improve traffic flow and safety around the Loop 410 and U.S. Highway 281 interchange. The construction area covers approximately 4.3 miles of Loop 410 between West Avenue and Broadway Street, along with another 2.7 miles of U.S. 281 between Loop 410 and East Nakoma Drive, and construction is expected to continue in phases through 2029 — so more overnight phases will come, even as this one closes out. The Texas Department of Transportation's DriveTexas site carries the latest conditions.
