Southbound I-35 Traffic Switch Closes Lanes From Petroleum Drive to Frost Bank Center Drive Through Monday 5 A.M. (T.W.A. NEWS)

Major lane reductions and ramp closures are underway along southbound Interstate 35 between mile markers 160 and 163, spanning from Petroleum Drive to Frost Bank Center Drive, in TxDOT closure reporting read by the Traffic Desk this cycle. TxDOT has initiated nighttime closures affecting the southbound I-35 main lanes and the connector ramp from southbound Loop 410 to execute Phase 1 Step 1 of a scheduled traffic switch.

Work crews are closing alternating lanes, beginning with the center and right lanes before shifting to the center and left lanes, alongside intermittent entrance and exit ramp closures. The companion phase reporting describes alternating main-lane closures through the same stretch for Phase 1 Step 2 work, with only one southbound travel lane remaining open during active work hours in that phase.

Signed detours are in effect. W.W. White Road traffic is being routed to the Loop 410 main lanes via the Rittiman Road turnaround, while frontage road motorists must bypass through the FM 78 and Binz intersections. Drivers seeking Exit 160 should detour via Exit 162 or Exit 159B for Walters Street, according to the closure reporting.

The nighttime operations are scheduled to continue through the weekend, with all lanes and ramps scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 26. Motorists and commercial carriers traveling through northeast Bexar County should anticipate severe delays, plan alternate routes and reduce speeds through the work zone. The Traffic Desk will update this story if TxDOT confirms lane reopenings or schedule adjustments.
