Overnight I-35 Frontage Road Closures Run Through Thursday on the Northeast Side, 11 P.M. to 7 A.M. (T.W.A. NEWS)

Several frontage roads and exit ramps along Interstate 35 in Northeast San Antonio will close overnight through Oct. 30 as part of the I-35 Northeast Expansion Program, weather permitting, according to the Texas Department of Transportation as reported by KTSA. The closures run through Thursday with extended hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30.

On the northbound side, drivers near Space Center Drive will be directed onto Industry Park Drive and back to the frontage road at the next entrance ramp. Near Rittiman Road and Exit 164B, drivers will be detoured along Rittiman Road, Fratt Road and Eisenhauer Road, and some traffic entering northbound I-35 will also be redirected through nearby roads.

On the southbound side, drivers near Fratt Road and Exit 165 will follow detours using Fratt Road, Interchange Parkway and Walzem Road, and drivers near Walzem Road and Exit 164B will be detoured along Walzem Road, Austin Highway and Eisenhauer Road, with some redirected to the Northeast Loop 410 interchange. Between Eisenhower Lane and Petroleum Drive, traffic will be detoured using the I-410 connector, Binz Engleman Road and the northbound I-35 frontage road.

TxDOT said the I-35 main lanes and George Beach Avenue will remain open during the closures, and access to Brooke Army Medical Center will be maintained. At George Beach Avenue, drivers will be able to continue onto the southbound frontage road, reach the medical center or turn toward Petroleum Drive; the frontage road between George Beach Avenue and Petroleum Drive will temporarily carry two-way traffic, with law enforcement directing vehicles at the intersection. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detour signs and allow extra time for overnight travel.
