City Streets Roundup: Hildebrand Water-Main Work Starts Monday; UTSA Boulevard Closed Into November (T.W.A. NEWS)

Drivers on Hildebrand Avenue get a heads-up for Monday. The San Antonio Water System starts work on October 26 replacing a water main along Hildebrand between McCullough Avenue and Devine Road, and the work is expected to run through next March. When the water main work is finished, the city plans to upgrade the surface of that same stretch of Hildebrand. In the meantime, residents and motorists are asked to check SAWS for updates on rolling road closures as the work progresses.

On the Northwest Side, UTSA Boulevard remains fully closed between Babcock Road and North Hills Village Drive, and the closure continues through early November. The closure is part of the bond-funded, $10.9 million Babcock Road improvement project, which affects Babcock between UTSA Boulevard and West Hausman Road and is slated to end this winter.

On the near West Side, crews working the Culebra Park-area street repairs have shifted to the opposite side of Laven Drive and Pettus Street, closing the east side between Culebra Road and Pettus and the south side between Laven and Brendell Street. Motorists are asked to use Culebra Road, El Centro Street and San Benito Drive. The bond-funded $8 million project is scheduled to continue through next summer.

And along San Pedro Avenue, VIA Metropolitan Transit's work on the Rapid Green Line — the dedicated bus corridor being developed from San Antonio International Airport to the Missions area on the South Side — brings lane closures and turn restrictions, including on San Pedro between Cypress and Laurel streets and at Clower and Hermine streets. The Traffic Desk's advice: the freeway closures at Loop 1604 and U.S. 281 own the weekend headlines, but these city-street projects are the ones that will surprise drivers on their regular routes — plan for them before Monday.
