East Hildebrand Avenue Is Closed for a SAWS Water Main Project, With Detours Between McCullough and Devine Through March 2027
Crews are replacing aging water mains at three sites along East Hildebrand Avenue, and drivers should expect detours — and possible brief water interruptions — while the work runs into early 2027.

A section of East Hildebrand Avenue closed on Monday, October 26, for a San Antonio Water System water main replacement project, according to reporting on the project this week. Crews are digging at three separate sites along the avenue as they replace aging, failure-prone mains.
Traffic is being managed with detours between McCullough Avenue and Devine Road while the work continues. Drivers who use East Hildebrand for the cross-town run should build in extra time or shift to a parallel route, and nearby customers may see temporary water service interruptions as crews connect the new lines to the existing system.
Preliminary work on the project began October 21, and the expected completion date is March 2027. The closure is an active phase of the city's 2023 Water Main Replacement Project 4, which targets areas with a high history of infrastructure failures. The Traffic Desk will carry any change to the detour pattern in the drive-time files.
