Día de los Muertos Sunday in San Antonio: The Calaveras de Azúcar Festival Closes at Market Square, and the Pearl Procession Walks at Dusk
San Antonio's Día de los Muertos weekend lands on its namesake day Sunday: the free Calaveras de Azúcar Festival runs 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Historic Market Square, the self-guided altar tour continues there through November 6, and the Pearl's celebration runs 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a communal procession at about 7:15 p.m.

Día de los Muertos itself — Sunday, November 1 — is the fullest day of San Antonio's long Day of the Dead weekend downtown. At Historic Market Square, 514 W. Commerce Street, the Calaveras de Azúcar Festival closes its two-day run on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., free, according to the City of San Antonio's fall-events release, read this cycle. The Market Square Farmers Market Association's festival features altars, live music and local vendors, per the city — the same square where the city's Cultural Celebration filled the plaza the previous weekend.
Two more Market Square threads run past Sunday. The Self-Guided Día de los Muertos Altar Tour — a walk through the square's ofrendas at your own pace — runs every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through November 6, per the city's release. Across downtown at the Pearl, 303 Pearl Parkway, the Día de los Muertos celebration runs Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., free, with ofrendas curated by local artists, a community altar, live performances, local vendors and the Catrín and Catrina contest, culminating in a communal procession across the Pearl campus at approximately 7:15 p.m., according to the San Antonio Things To Do MuertosFest preview, read this cycle.
Sunday's files join a weekend the station has covered across the city — MujerArtes' 31st annual Día de Muertos on the Westside, the River Walk Tradition Trail's alebrijes and calaveras, and SAY Sí's Muertitos Fest. The Weather Desk's midday file holds Sunday dry and mild — 70.3 degrees late morning, an 80.3 high, a 2 percent rain chance — for all of it.
