Halloween Weekend Traffic Roundup: Loop 1604 and I-10 Close Nightly to Monday, and the US 90 Striping Closures Run to Sunday Morning (T.W.A. NEWS)

Halloween weekend driving in San Antonio is a night game. At the northwest interchange, the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads and the eastbound I-10 mainlanes close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Friday, October 30, through Monday, November 2, weather permitting, for bridge-widening work, KTSA's report on the TxDOT schedule, read this cycle, said. Drivers are directed onto frontage roads and U-turns, truck and oversized vehicles get a separate detour, and all flyover ramps at that interchange remain open.

The West Side carries its own closures, and they run longer. The direct connector flyover ramp from southbound Loop 1604 to eastbound US 90 is completely closed near mile marker 504 for striping operations on the eastbound US 90 main lanes — work that began at 9 p.m. Friday, October 30, and is scheduled to run until about 5 a.m. Sunday, November 1, according to the TxDOT closure listing read this cycle. The same striping program has closed all westbound US 90 main lanes from east of I-410 to west of Loop 1604 (mile markers 564 to 560) on the same Friday-night-to-Sunday-morning schedule, with a detour established around the work zone.

Put together, the board reads: Saturday night's Halloween traffic meets the interchange closures at 9 p.m. sharp, and the US 90 corridor stays constricted until Sunday morning. The Traffic Desk's advice is the standing one for this interchange pair — use the frontage roads and posted detours rather than improvising, expect the flyover closure to push US 90-bound traffic onto surface routes, and check the live traffic panel on twanews.com before a late cross-town trip.
