Week 10 of the San Antonio high school football season is a playoff-scenario week, and it starts Thursday night. Brandeis (5-3) meets Clark (2-6) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Farris Stadium, according to the San Antonio Express-News Week 10 preview carried by The Bull Post and read in full this cycle. The Broncos, ranked No. 19, have won three straight in District 28-6A after opening league play with losses to Johnson and Reagan, and sit 3-2 in district, tied with Churchill for third; a win would virtually clinch a playoff spot. Senior Wynter Smith led Brandeis past Madison last week with 221 rushing yards and 146 passing yards, while Clark kept its own hopes alive by beating Roosevelt 49-14 behind senior receiver Elisha Johnson, who caught 13 passes for a career-best 270 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another score. Brandeis leads the all-time series 14-4.

Friday's highest-stakes local game is in District 27-6A, where East Central (5-3) hosts Judson (3-4) at 7:30 p.m. at Rutledge Stadium. The two are tied with Clemens for third place, and the preview says the loser might need help to reach the postseason; Steele (5-0 in district) is a win away from clinching the district championship, and Pieper (4-1) can secure a playoff spot by beating Clemens on Friday. Both East Central and Judson have lost to the same two teams in the last two weeks — Steele and Pieper — and Judson leads the all-time series 24-11, in a rivalry that started in 1970.

The area's most prolific offense travels Friday as well. Kerrville Tivy (8-0, 5-0 in District 13-4A-I) can clinch at least a share of the league championship with a win at Canyon Lake (5-2, 4-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tivy has scored 538 points and reached at least 70 points five times, including an 80-0 win over Austin Northeast last week; sophomore quarterback Cohen Stehling has thrown for 1,821 yards and 25 touchdowns, and senior running back Aiden Zavala has 1,183 yards and 21 touchdowns on 149 carries. Canyon Lake, which beat Fredericksburg 50-32 last week behind senior quarterback Jace Wheeler (1,752 passing yards, 20 touchdowns), hosts the first-ever meeting between the two. Elsewhere Friday, Harlandale (5-3, 5-1 in District 14-5A-II) hosts a resurgent Brackenridge (6-2, 4-2) at 7 p.m. at Harlandale Memorial Stadium — the Eagles have already qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2021 after going 5-35 over the previous four seasons.
