UTSA's Owen Pewee Named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week After Three Sacks at Tulane
Pewee recorded three sacks, five unassisted tackles, three quarterback hurries and a pass breakup in the 42-19 win at Tulane, where UTSA's defense tied a school record with six takeaways.

UTSA linebacker Owen Pewee has been named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Roadrunners' 42-19 road win over Tulane, the league office announced Monday, according to UTSA Athletics. Pewee registered three sacks as part of five total tackles — all unassisted — to go with three quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
Pewee's sacks cost Tulane 26 yards in all: a 10-yard sack in the third quarter and a pair in the final frame that went for nine and seven yards. He helped lead a defense that came up with a school record-tying six takeaways — the second most in an FBS game in 2026 — and limited the Green Wave to 332 total yards, including only 67 on the ground. His performance was the eighth time a Roadrunner has recorded at least three sacks in a game, and he is one of two American Conference players with that many sacks in a game this season.
For the season, Pewee has posted 37 total tackles, 22 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, six quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and a pass breakup. The honor is UTSA's third American weekly award this season, after Darion White's defensive award on October 5 and Caile Hogan's special teams award on October 19. The Roadrunners are off this weekend before returning Thursday, November 5, against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, with kickoff at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN or ESPN2.
