UIW Blows By McNeese 38-6: Emmett Brown Accounts for 362 Yards and Five Touchdowns (T.W.A. NEWS)

Incarnate Word left no doubt Saturday in San Antonio. The Cardinals beat McNeese 38-6 in Southland Conference play at Benson Stadium, according to UIW Athletics, with quarterback Emmett Brown accounting for 362 yards of offense and five touchdowns and the Cardinals finishing without a turnover for the first time all season.

The day opened with defense. Jeremiah Young forced a strip sack on McNeese's opening possession that Terrell Elliott recovered at the Cowboy 27, and on the next play Brown found tight end Dane Farley alone for a touchdown off a trick play. Young finished with three sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss — his second three-sack game of the season — and now has 7.5 sacks, one shy of the single-season program record shared by Myke Tavarres (2015), Justin Alexandre (2018) and Devin Grant (2024), UIW Athletics reported.

The game broke open in the final two minutes of the first half, when the teams combined for four touchdowns and three of them were Brown passes: a 29-yard throw to Roy Alexander, a one-play 56-yard strike to Jacob Emmers after a defensive three-and-out, and — after McNeese answered — a 26-yard score to Isaiah Champagne at the end of a six-play, 75-yard drive in the final 59 seconds. Brown capped his day with a 38-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, completing 19 of 27 passes for 283 yards and leading all players with 79 yards rushing. UIW gained 239 yards on the ground in all, with Jayden Hibbler rushing for 75 and Lontrell Turner for 48, and Patrick Batiste added a second-quarter interception, his second in as many games.

"When we're not in our own way, I think we're the best offense in the country," Brown said, as quoted by UIW Athletics. The win moves UIW to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Southland, and to 4-0 at home, where the Cardinals have won by an average of 30.5 points. UIW hosts Northwestern State next Saturday at 1 p.m. — a team that, UIW Athletics noted, has lost 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.
