Texas Voter Records Glitch: Missing Addresses Are Now Showing, and Bexar County Got 3,000 of the Delayed Updates

Texas Voter Records Glitch: Missing Addresses Are Now Showing, and Bexar County Got 3,000 of the Delayed Updates (T.W.A. NEWS)

The second Texas voter-registration software problem of this election season reached its fix on Friday. The updated addresses that had been missing from voter records are now showing up for Texas county election officials, according to an email from the Texas Secretary of State's office reported by KUT radio's Texas Newsroom and carried in the Capital Highlights roundup for the week of October 19 to 23. Alicia Pierce, a spokesperson for the Secretary of State's office, said the agency sent 15,000 records back to counties, that the problem has been resolved, and that voters will still be able to cast a ballot.

The glitch was caused by what state elections director Christina Adkins called, in an email to county officials obtained by Votebeat, "an extra address validation with Texas.gov." It hit Texans who updated their names or addresses through the state's government record portal between September 1 and last week: many of the updated records still did not carry the voters' new addresses. Adkins wrote that Civix, the vendor that runs the state's TEAM voter registration system, reran all files from September 1 onward to identify affected voters.

Bexar County's share was the largest named so far. The Texas Association of County Election Officials said Bexar County received 3,000 of the delayed records on Thursday, with Travis County receiving 1,100, Williamson County 700 and Hays County 400. "Just when most counties were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, another unexpected backlog is being dropped on county voter registrars," the association's executive director, Chris McGinn, said. The new problem arrived only days after officials said they had cleared an earlier, separate backlog caused by a Texas Department of Public Safety software update, which had affected more than 500,000 voter registrations submitted since October 2025.

For San Antonio voters, the practical step is unchanged: anyone who updated a name or address through texas.gov since September should check that their registration shows the new address before heading to a polling place, through the Texas Secretary of State's voter portal or by contacting the Bexar County voter registrar. Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
