Texas Jumps to No. 11 in the AP Top 25; UTSA Picks Up Votes in Both Polls
Sunday's new AP Top 25 moved Texas up eight spots to No. 11 after its 34-27 win over Ole Miss, and UTSA's 42-19 win at Tulane earned the Roadrunners votes in both the AP and Coaches polls.

Texas is back on the edge of the top 10. The Longhorns jumped eight spots to No. 11 in the AP Top 25 released Sunday, according to USA Today's published poll, after Saturday's 34-27 win over Mississippi in Austin. Ole Miss, which came in ranked No. 7 in the Coaches Poll account of the matchup, fell to No. 12 in the AP poll. Texas is also No. 11 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released the same day.
Miami held the AP No. 1 spot with 59 first-place votes, followed by Ohio State (10 first-place votes), Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame, with Utah sixth after receiving one first-place vote. The rest of the AP top 10 is UCLA, BYU, Kentucky and Alabama. Texas Tech is No. 13, Houston No. 18 and SMU No. 19, giving the state three ranked teams behind Texas, according to the published poll.
San Antonio's team is on the board, too. UTSA, 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the American after Saturday night's 42-19 win at Tulane, received one vote in the AP poll's others-receiving-votes list and 34 votes in the Coaches Poll — the stronger showing of the two, and a sign of how the Roadrunners' five-game winning streak is registering nationally. UTSA also appeared at No. 25 in one independent Top 25 published Sunday, though the official polls are the record this story follows.
The polls set up the stretch run. Texas, now 5-2, faces two more ranked opponents on the road in the published accounts — No. 23 Missouri and No. 15 LSU — while UTSA heads into its bye week atop the American before its next contest at Florida Atlantic. Neither poll is a playoff bracket, and the desk will track both teams' movement as the November polls land.
