In Southtown, Halloween Night Splits in Two: Rosario's Ofrenda Honors Día de los Muertos, and Its Rooftop Throws a Costume Party
Rosario's ComidaMex & Bar, 722 S. St. Mary's Street, keeps its Día de los Muertos ofrenda and giant sugar skull on display through November 2 — and on Saturday night its Rooftop Lounge runs a Halloween party from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with costume-contest sign-ups from 9 to 10 p.m. and cash prizes.

One Southtown address is carrying both of this weekend's holidays at once. Rosario's ComidaMex & Bar, at 722 S. St. Mary's Street, has displayed a traditional Día de los Muertos ofrenda inside the restaurant since October 9, alongside a giant sugar skull statue on the patio for photos, and the display stays up through November 2, according to the restaurant's October announcement, read in full this cycle (AllOfSA, October 9). Its seasonal Bidi Bidi Boo cocktail — hibiscus-infused vodka, black salt, a spider ring and gummy eyeballs, the announcement says — runs through Halloween night, October 31.
Saturday night, the building's other personality takes the roof. The Rooftop Lounge's Halloween party runs Saturday, October 31, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with DJ Pete, part of the lounge's standing Friday-and-Saturday DJ series in the same hours. Costume-contest registration runs from 9 to 10 p.m.; contestants are presented individually and winners are chosen through crowd participation, for a $100 first prize, two $50 prizes and a swag basket, the SA Examiner's Halloween guide adds. There is no cover charge, and the Rooftop Lounge is for guests 25 and older.
For families splitting the weekend the way San Antonio usually does — trick-or-treat hours first (the desk's times file is SQ-20261031-002), Día observance across Saturday and Sunday (the Pearl celebration peaks Sunday, SQ-20261031-014, and the library programs run Saturday, SQ-20261031-040) — the Southtown stop is the adults' late end of the same weekend: an ofrenda downstairs that honors the dead, and a costume contest upstairs that closes at half past midnight.
