Alamo Colleges Trustee Gloria Ray Resigns, and the Board Meets November 10 to Begin Filling the East Side Seat
Ray, the board's vice chair and a former Kelly Air Force Base senior official, stepped down effective October 25 after a tenure that began with her 2020 election — and years of volunteer leadership before it.

Gloria Ray, who represented District 2 on the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees and served as the board's vice chair, has submitted her resignation effective October 25, the district announced.
Ray was elected to the board in 2020, but her service to the district began long before that. As the elected chair of the district's Citizens Advisory Committees for multiple projects, she provided leadership and guidance for more than $1 billion in capital improvements, including the development of the district's headquarters. A San Antonio native who has lived in District 2 her entire life, Ray retired from Kelly Air Force Base as a senior official after 27 years of service, where she headed a division with the largest organizational budget at the base — over $1.7 billion — and responsibility for a 2,500-person workforce.
In her resignation letter, Ray described serving the district's students, faculty, staff and communities as "one of the greatest honors" of her public service career. "Trustee Ray has dedicated many years to the Alamo Colleges District and the people we serve," said Board Chair Joe Alderete Jr. "Her belief in the power of education, her commitment to District 2 and her leadership on behalf of our students have made a lasting difference." Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores called her "a champion for our students."
A special board meeting is planned for November 10 to formally accept Ray's resignation and consider establishing a process for accepting and reviewing applicants and appointing an interim trustee for District 2, which covers much of San Antonio's East Side. The formal agenda will be posted on November 4.
