San Antonio Man Sentenced to 70 Years in Prison for Killing His Girlfriend's Coworker on Ames Avenue
Ronnie Jay Salas, 24, was convicted Oct. 23 in the fatal shooting of Andre Montera, 24, and sentenced to 70 years in prison, the Bexar County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

A San Antonio man will spend 70 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend's coworker in 2025 over a suspected affair, the Bexar County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday. Ronnie Jay Salas, 24, was convicted Oct. 23 in the fatal shooting of Andre Montera, 24, on the Southwest Side.
Prosecutors said Salas ambushed Montera on April 23, 2025, while Montera was sitting in a car outside his apartment in the 100 block of Ames Avenue. Salas confronted Montera and shot him in the stomach, according to the prosecution's account. Montera was taken to a hospital, where he later died, and Salas fled before police arrived.
The search for Salas crossed state lines. U.S. Marshals arrested him in Kansas on May 15, 2025, after authorities issued a Crime Stoppers alert seeking information about his whereabouts, and his extradition back to Bexar County took about three months. Montera's mother, Toni Brantley, previously criticized that lengthy extradition process, saying she feared the suspect could be released while awaiting transfer to Texas.
Salas's jury trial began last week and concluded Oct. 23 with the guilty verdict and the 70-year prison sentence. The sentence closes the court case nearly a year and a half after the shooting; the District Attorney's Office announced it Wednesday.
