Proposition A: San Antonio Decides Whether Pre-K 4 SA Runs Another 20 Years
The city's only local ballot measure asks voters to reauthorize the one-eighth-of-1-percent sales tax that funds Pre-K 4 SA, for a maximum 20-year period starting when the current authorization expires in 2029.

Amid the federal and state races on the November 3 ballot, San Antonio voters face one local measure of their own: Proposition A, the reauthorization of the Pre-K 4 SA sales and use tax.
The measure asks voters to renew a sales tax of one-eighth of 1 percent — 0.125 percent, or 12.5 cents on a $100 taxable purchase — to continue funding the Pre-K 4 SA early childhood education program for a maximum period of 20 years, starting in 2029. The City Council ordered the special election on August 13, 2026, and the current authorization expires in 2029.
San Antonio voters first approved using a sales tax to fund Pre-K 4 SA in 2012; the program extends prekindergarten services to 4-year-olds. According to an assessment of the program at its 12th year of operations, children who participated for one or two years were outperforming their peers statewide across categories including cognitive, physical and social-emotional development, literacy, math and oral language skills.
Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, at sites across Bexar County — Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. — ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3. Registered Bexar County voters can vote at any early voting site.
