Stronger Together: Neighbors Take Back the Park

Neighbors plant trees, clear brush and prove 'stronger together' is a schedule, not a slogan.

Stronger Together: Neighbors Take Back the Park (T.W.A. NEWS)

The shovels were pink, the wheelbarrows were full, and by midday Saturday, a San Antonio park had dozens of new trees and a lot of new friends.

Neighbors of all ages turned out for the community workday — planting trees, clearing brush and giving one of the city's shared green spaces the kind of care that is hard to schedule and easy to feel.

Organizers say the workdays run on a simple idea: people protect what they help build. Families who plant a tree in the spring come back to check on it, and bring neighbors with them.

City parks staff provided the trees, tools and mulch, and say volunteer turnout has been climbing at every event this year — a trend they credit to word of mouth and a few very determined block captains.

The next workday is already on the calendar, and organizers say no experience is required — just gloves, water and a willingness to be part of the crew photo.

T.W.A. News will be there. Stronger together is not just a slogan around here; some weekends, it is the schedule.
