Ken Paxton Cancels His Final El Paso Stop Before Election Day; the San Antonio Stop Is Still Set for Sunday
Paxton's campaign confirmed the Sunday appearance at El Paso's Orca Event Center is off, citing scheduling and logistics. His stops in Mission and San Antonio the same day remain on the schedule, four days before his Senate race against James Talarico is decided.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton has canceled his final campaign stop in El Paso, his campaign confirmed to the El Paso Times. Paxton had been scheduled to appear Sunday, November 1, at El Paso's Orca Event Center, which seats about 130 people. Campaign spokesperson Madison Cercy said scheduling changes and logistics led to the cancellation: "(With) less than a week until Election Day, schedules change quickly and logistics required us to postpone the El Paso stop," Cercy said in a text message, as reported by the Times.
The rest of Paxton's Sunday still stands. He is still scheduled to make campaign stops in Mission and in San Antonio that day, the Times reported, and the campaign has so far announced no plans to reschedule the canceled El Paso appearance. The cancellation came a day after a Paxton rally in San Angelo drew only a "few dozen people," according to The Daily Beast's account as reported by the Times.
The contrast in El Paso is part of the story of the race's final week. Democrat James Talarico drew a packed house at his final El Paso campaign stop on Monday, October 26, filling the 1,100-seat Magoffin Auditorium on the University of Texas at El Paso campus nearly to capacity, while a few hundred supporters turned out for Paxton's last El Paso stop, on September 30 at The Summit Ballroom and Event Center. Paxton and Talarico face each other on Tuesday, November 3, in one of the country's most closely watched races, with Texas Democrats seeking to send one of their own to the U.S. Senate for the first time in three decades.
