John Washington III Calls for Guaranteed, Independent Funding for All Three Branches, Saying Court Budgets Should Never Be a Political Weapon
John Washington III, a 2028 presidential candidate, argued that Congress's control of court funding leaves the justice system dependent, pointed to the federal courts scaling back paid operations during a 2025 funding lapse, and called for guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches with full public accountability.

John Washington III said the justice system suffers when Congress controls the courts' funding. "When Congress controls the courts' funding, the justice system can suffer," he wrote. "That's not balance. That's dependence."
John Washington III pointed to 2025, when, he wrote, the federal courts had to scale back paid operations because of a funding lapse. "If one branch can squeeze another financially, then checks and balances start to crack," he wrote.
John Washington III asked readers to picture themselves in court without a $10,000 lawyer, not knowing all the rules while prosecutors do. "Judges must be free to protect your constitutional rights, not worry about politics or budgets," he wrote.
John Washington III called for "guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches, with full public accountability, but no political retaliation." "This isn't unlimited money," he wrote. "It's about protecting the people's rights and restoring real independence among the branches."
