Halloween in San Antonio is going to the dogs — on purpose. Howl-O-Ween runs Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Coyote Dog Park at The Rock at La Cantera, billed by its Do210 event listing as a spooky celebration for pups and their humans. Admission is completely free, parking is free, and all ages and dogs are welcome.

The centerpiece is a dedicated trick-or-treat trail for pups, where dogs can collect free treats and goodies from every vendor along the way. A costume contest gives owners a chance to show off a pet's best spooky outfit for prizes, a pet vendor market lines up local businesses offering dog items for purchase alongside their treat giveaways, and festive photo backdrops are set up for Halloween pictures.

The afternoon carries a serious purpose alongside the costumes: a live SNIPSA adoption fair runs during the event, where attendees can meet rescue dogs looking for homes. Local food trucks will be on hand with food and drinks for the human attendees through the event.

While admission is free, the listing asks attendees to claim a free ticket in advance — reserving a spot helps organizers make sure there are plenty of treats, space and fun for every dog and human on the trail. The event sits on a busy Saturday in the city, between Muertos Fest's full day at Hemisfair downtown and a 12-hour day of early voting across Bexar County, and it wraps by 6 p.m., early enough for both.
