Harlan Opens at No. 4 in the State: San Antonio Boys Land Across the TABC Preseason Rankings
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches preseason list puts Harlan, Steele, Clemens and Brennan in the Class 6A top 25, with Alamo Heights and Veterans Memorial leading the area's 5A names.
San Antonio-area boys basketball opens the season with statewide respect. In the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches preseason rankings dated Oct. 26, 2026, as published by the Corpus Christi Caller Times, Harlan starts at No. 4 in Class 6A, behind only Allen at No. 1, Duncanville at No. 2 and Atascocita at No. 3. Three more area 6A programs join Harlan in the top 25: Cibolo Steele at No. 8, Schertz Clemens at No. 16 and San Antonio Brennan at No. 24.
Class 5A carries its own San Antonio cluster. Alamo Heights opens at No. 7, San Antonio Veterans Memorial at No. 10 and Boerne Champion at No. 15, in a top five led by Highland Park, Mansfield Summit, Beaumont West Brook, Lancaster and Mansfield Timberview, according to the published list. In Class 4A, Davenport opens at No. 11, with Kerrville Tivy at No. 9 and Wimberley at No. 10 also representing the wider area. In Class 3A, San Antonio Cole is No. 10 and Marion is No. 17.
The private-school rankings add more local names. In TAPPS 6A/SPC 4A, Antonian Prep opens at No. 6 and Central Catholic at No. 8. In TAPPS 5A/SPC 3A, TMI Episcopal is No. 7, and in TAPPS 4A, San Antonio Holy Cross is No. 6, according to the same published preseason list.
The rankings are a preseason marker, not a result — no area team has won anything yet on the strength of a list. What the list does establish is the starting expectation: Harlan begins the year as a state-level contender in 6A, and the San Antonio area places ranked teams in every classification the coaches' association published on Monday, from 6A down through the TAPPS divisions.
