Friday Night's Big Ones: Unbeaten Smithson Valley Hosts Boerne-Champion, Johnson Puts 6-0 on the Line Against Reagan
The San Antonio area slate runs to 74 games on Friday night, headlined by a meeting of 7-0 teams — defending state champion Smithson Valley against Boerne-Champion — and unbeaten Johnson against Reagan.

Friday night is the biggest high school football night of the San Antonio season so far. The area slate runs to 74 games, and the featured matchups put three unbeaten area teams on the field against the opponents most likely to test them.
The headline game is in Spring Branch, where Smithson Valley — 7-0 and the defending state champions, ranked No. 5 in the Texas Top 25 published October 20 by Sports Illustrated's high school arm — hosts Boerne-Champion, also 7-0 and ranked No. 22 in the same poll. The rankings called it perhaps Smithson Valley's toughest test of the year, with the Chargers facing the defending champions on the road.
Across the city, Claudia Taylor Johnson takes a 6-0 record and the No. 14 state ranking into its game against Reagan. The Jaguars have posted 62 or more points for the third time in four weeks, most recently in a 62-21 win over Clark. Boerne, 7-0 and ranked No. 17, hosts San Antonio Veterans Memorial after quarterback Grant Sweeney ran for two touchdowns and passed for four in a 49-7 win over Liberty Hill.
The rest of the night's local slate includes the SAISD matchups on the district's master schedule — Jefferson against Brackenridge at the Sports Complex and Burbank against McCollum at Memorial Stadium, both at 7 p.m. — and a 7:30 p.m. district game between Sotomayor and Taft. The Sports Desk will file the Friday high school roundup by 11:30 p.m. once the finals are in.
