Fox Questionable With a Wrist Sprain as the Spurs Face Houston in Austin Tonight (T.W.A. NEWS)

The Spurs may be without one of their most important players tonight. Guard De'Aaron Fox is officially listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Houston Rockets because of a right wrist sprain, according to the NBA's October 22 injury report. Fox has not been ruled out, and a final determination on his availability was still pending Friday morning.

Fox was one of San Antonio's most efficient players in Tuesday's 116-104 opening-night loss to Oklahoma City, playing 32 minutes and finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds and a team-high seven assists on 6-for-9 shooting. The Spurs fell behind by as many as 26 points in that game; Stephon Castle led the team with 24 points and Dylan Harper added 18, while Victor Wembanyama finished with 12 points on 1-for-13 shooting alongside 13 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Fox is not the only name on San Antonio's report. Forward Keldon Johnson is also questionable with a mouth laceration, Tobias Harris has been ruled out with a left calf strain, and Jayden Quaintance remains sidelined following right knee surgery. If Fox cannot play, Castle and Harper are the natural candidates for additional ball-handling responsibilities.

Houston arrives in Austin at 1-0 after a 128-110 win over Dallas on Wednesday, led by 30 points each from Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. and 23 points and 10 rebounds from Alperen Sengun. Tip-off at the Moody Center is 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Prime Video, and the Spurs travel to Dallas on Saturday — a back-to-back that makes Fox's status matter beyond tonight. The Sports Desk will file Friday's final from Austin the same night.
