Election Day in Bexar County: Any Vote Center, 7 A.M. to 7 P.M., and the ID Rules That Decide Your Ballot

Bexar County's countywide vote centers open at 7 a.m. Tuesday for the November 3 general election — any registered voter can use any open site, anyone in line by 7 p.m. votes, and the photo-ID list has a fallback for voters who do not have one.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, and Bexar County votes the way it has all cycle: at countywide vote centers. Any voter registered in Bexar County can vote at any open polling location in the county on Election Day, not only a home precinct site, according to the League of Women Voters of the San Antonio Area and PlanYourVoteSA, whose guides the desk read this cycle. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and a voter who is in line when the center closes at 7 p.m. keeps the right to stay in line and vote. The ballot carries the races San Antonio has watched all fall — U.S. Senate, Texas governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, U.S. House, and state, county and judicial offices, as UT San Antonio's election guide lists them.

Bring photo identification. Texas accepts seven forms: a Texas driver's license, a Texas personal ID card, a Texas Election Identification Certificate (free from DPS), a Texas handgun license, a U.S. passport book or card, a U.S. military ID with a photo, and a U.S. Citizenship Certificate with a photo. A voter registration card is recommended — it speeds check-in — but it is not required. A voter who does not have an acceptable photo ID and could not reasonably get one can still vote a regular ballot by signing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polling place and showing a supporting document such as a utility bill, a bank statement, a government check or mail, or a voter registration certificate. Voters may bring printed notes and sample-ballot selections into the booth — UT San Antonio notes electronic devices are prohibited within 100 feet of polling locations — and Texas law also prohibits wearing campaign clothing or items supporting a candidate, party or measure within that same 100 feet.

Every Bexar County polling location offers curbside voting for voters physically unable to enter without assistance or risk to their health, with no proof of disability required, and Spanish-language ballots and materials are available at every location; a voter may also bring one person to assist. Questions go to the Bexar County Elections Department at 210-335-8683, and the county posts Election Day locations and wait-time information online. The desk's late-night weather file puts Election Day's shower chance at 59 percent, so a rain jacket alongside the ID is the practical kit. Early-voting results are typically released shortly after polls close at 7 p.m., with Election Day results following through the evening.
