Budget Debate Takes Center Stage at City Hall
Streets, safety and tax rates top the agenda as council workshops get underway at City Hall.

City Hall is taking up the new budget this week, and the debate is shaping up around a familiar question: how to pay for a fast-growing city's needs without squeezing the families who live here.
The proposal on the table funds the street, drainage and public-safety work outlined in the city's new growth plan, while holding the line on the property-tax rate — a combination supporters call disciplined and critics call optimistic.
Council members spent the first hearings pressing department heads on timelines: when will the worst streets get fixed, when will response times improve, and how will residents be able to track the work?
Public turnout has been strong, with speakers from every district asking for the same two things — visible progress and honest reporting on where the money goes.
Budget workshops continue this week at City Hall, and all of them are open to the public. A final vote is expected before the new fiscal year begins.
T.W.A. News will carry the key hearings live and break down what the final budget means for your neighborhood.
