Downtown families get the big library Halloween party this afternoon. The Central Spooktacular runs Saturday, October 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Central Library, 600 Soledad St., with Halloween games and age-appropriate activities for families, according to the San Antonio Public Library's October lineup. Costumes are encouraged, and no registration is required.

The party is the headline of a citywide lineup of free Halloween events SAPL is hosting throughout October 2026 at branches across San Antonio — pumpkin painting and trick-or-treating, spooky storytelling and classic horror movies, with activities scheduled through October 31. The library says the range runs from gentle, not-too-scary activities for preschoolers to paranormal storytelling and Halloween crafts for adults.

The final week keeps going after Saturday. Landa Boo runs Tuesday, October 27, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Landa Branch Library, 233 Bushnell Ave., with animals, bubbles, balloons and a costume parade, and Pan American Branch hosts a community spooky story night the same evening. Potranco Branch holds a kids' Halloween craft on October 28, Schaefer and Forest Hills host preschool and family story-time celebrations on October 29, and McCreless and Forest Hills close the run on October 31.

Many of the library's Halloween activities are open without registration, but certain workshops require advance sign-up and craft supplies may be limited, so families are encouraged to check individual listings for age recommendations and schedule changes. The full lineup is on the library's Halloween event calendar at mysapl.org, or by phone at 210-207-2500.
