Calaveras de Azucar Festival Fills Market Square This Weekend: Free, Until 9:30 P.M. Saturday and All Day Sunday
Historic Market Square's sugar-skull festival runs Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 1 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. — free, with altars, live music and local vendors, the City of San Antonio says.

Downtown's Día de los Muertos weekend has a late-running centerpiece. The Calaveras de Azucar Festival is under way at Historic Market Square, 514 W. Commerce Street, running Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and continuing Sunday, November 1 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., according to the City of San Antonio's fall-events release, read in full this cycle. Admission is free.
The Market Square Farmers Market Association hosts the festival, which the city describes as a vibrant celebration of Día de los Muertos with family and friends, featuring altars, live music and local vendors. It is a distinct event from Market Square's October 24–25 cultural celebration, which this station covered last weekend — this weekend's festival is the holiday weekend's own edition, running later into Saturday night than any other downtown observance on the city's calendar.
The festival also sits inside a longer Market Square season: the square's self-guided Día de los Muertos altar tour, with uniquely themed ofrendas throughout the square, runs every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through November 6, the city says. Families downtown for Halloween Saturday get both in one trip — the festival until 9:30 p.m. tonight, and the altar tour again Sunday alongside the festival's second day.
