Texas Early Vote Tops 4.2 Million Ballots, With a Record 19 Million Registered Voters (T.W.A. NEWS)

Texas voters are turning out in record-setting numbers for the 2026 midterms. More than 4.2 million Texans had voted early or by mail as of Sunday, and Secretary of State Robert Howden announced on Oct. 16 that Texas had 19 million registered voters ahead of the election, a record number for the state.

The statewide pace has climbed steadily through the early-voting window. This station reported Saturday that Texas passed 3.6 million ballots in the first week of early voting, with Bexar County at 241,604; the new statewide figure adds more than half a million ballots since then, with the final week still to run.

In-person early voting continues through Friday, Oct. 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. In Bexar County, polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday at the county's early-voting sites, and voters can cast a ballot at any open site in their county of registration.

The turnout is building toward a Nov. 3 ballot topped by a U.S. Senate race, the governor's race and all 150 Texas House seats. Election officials have stressed throughout the window that early-vote totals show how many ballots have been cast, not how anyone voted; no results are released before the polls close on Election Day.
