Hurricane Vance Path: Pacific Storm Strengthens South of Mexico, With No Texas Landfall in the Forecast
Hurricane Vance reached 90 mph on Friday far south of Mexico and is forecast to briefly reach major-hurricane strength Saturday — a Pacific storm whose forecast track carries no landfall for Texas, the Weather Desk reports plainly.

Hurricane Vance continued strengthening far south of Mexico on Friday. In the National Hurricane Center's Advisory Number 9, summarized by The Watchers from the NHC products, Vance carried maximum sustained winds of 90 mph at 15:00 UTC, centered about 455 miles south-southwest of Acapulco and 590 miles south-southeast of Manzanillo, moving northwest at about 5 mph with a minimum central pressure of 979 millibars. No coastal tropical cyclone watches or warnings were in effect.
The NHC forecast Vance to strengthen to about 110 mph by early Saturday UTC and briefly reach Category 3 intensity, near 115 mph, around midday Saturday UTC, before weakening back to Category 2 by early Sunday. Forecasters flagged low confidence in that intensity call: Vance is approaching a pool of cooler water and increasing wind shear over the next 24 hours could interrupt the strengthening, the NHC discussion said.
The hazards in the forecast are at sea and on Mexico's coast, not in Texas. Swells generated by Vance are expected to affect southern and southwestern Mexico through the weekend and into next week, with life-threatening surf and rip-current conditions likely, the NHC warned. Mexico's national weather service forecast locally heavy rain of 1 to 2 inches across parts of Michoacán and coastal Guerrero and waves of 7 to 10 feet along the Guerrero coast.
For Texas, the desk's finding is the plain one: Vance is an eastern Pacific storm, its forecast movement is slowly northwest to north-northwest offshore of Mexico, and nothing in the advisories read this cycle puts it on a Texas landfall path — the Houston Bureau's Gulf watch (TWN-096) found no Vance threat to the Texas coast in those advisories. San Antonio's own weekend weather is a separate, local story on the station's live feed: 78.4 degrees at midday Friday on the way to a high near 83.4 with no rain expected today, and a cooler Saturday near 79.5 with drizzle in the picture.
